Did a couple of loops on the Wye Valley, starting at The Bridge pub, Brockwier (no, we didn't try it out 1st!).

From there, down to Tintern, then climbed steeply up to Ninewells & Llandogo. Then long, steep off-road descent down to the Wye Valley & N up the old railway track to Redbrook. Stopped at The Boat Inn for liquid refreshment - told that the baguettes we'd ordered would take an hour. Just enough time to do the N off-road loop, or so we thought!!

Big mistake! This loop has some VERY serious climbs up totally overgrown, narrow tracks with loads of loose stones. What we thought would take 1 hour actually took us 2 1/2 - not helped by Tony breaking a spoke & bending the rim on his back wheel. The only way to get him going again was to disconnect his back brakes. I've never seen sparks flying of a mountain bikes brakes before, but they certainly did that day!!! A serious descent over loose stones & Tony taking all the braking force on the front wheel almost made the rim glow red.

Anyhow, we eventually made it back - & our baguettes were still there waiting for us! Even better for the long weight & washed down with a decent pint.

The ride back to Brockweir was uneventful - apart from losing our way once - but cycling over miles of bone dry fields pretty much rattled everything apart - especially my backside & wrists.

Good to get back, but the bloody pub was shut!!
